Is Davante Adams a free agent?
Adams became a free agent this week after the Jets ended their partnership with him after just 11 games. Adams’ base salary, based on his previous five-year contract he signed with the Raiders in 2022, was around $35 million for the next two years. The Jets weren’t going to pay that and then looked for a trade partner. When that didn’t materialize, the Jets cut Adams and allowed him to be a free agent.
The Jets acquired Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders in October, reuniting him with good friend and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
But the Jets are also moving on from Rodgers this offseason so it’s possible the two friends find their next team together.
Or Adams could continue his career elsewhere, potentially in Green Bay where he began his career and is ranked fourth in franchise history with 8,121 receiving yards and second with 73 touchdowns.
A source told PackersNews reporter Pete Dougherty that Adams could command around $20 million a year on the open market.
Packers wide receiver depth chart
The Packers could be in the hunt for a top-line wide receiver to lead its young group of wideouts in 2025 and help elevate the passing game.
Green Bay will also be missing deep threat wide receiver Christian Watson for likely a large portion of the year as he recovers from a torn ACL he suffered in the final game of the 2024 season. Romeo Doubs is also coming off two concussions.
Meanwhile, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks will be entering their third seasons. Reed led the Packers with 857 yards and 55 receptions but he didn’t have a 100-yard game in the final two months of the season. Wicks struggled with drops all season and finished with 415 yards, a decline from his promising rookie year.
