Davante Adams isn’t the only wide receiver the New England Patriots could land from the New York Jets in 2025.
Jets wideout Allen Lazard has clearance “to seek a trade,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and Lazard has been an effective touchdown pass catcher for years. Lazard came to the Jets with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2023 and appears headed out with Rodgers, too.
While the Patriots might not want to trade for Lazard, who has a four-year, $44 million contract, waiting things out could make sense. The Jets couldn’t find a trade suitor for Adams and released him this week, and the same could occur with Lazard amid $11 million for earnings in 2025.
Lazard had 37 catches for 503 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, and he has never caught fewer than six touchdowns in three of the past four seasons. His career averages of 47 receptions, 630 yards, and six touchdowns based on 17-game seasons bodes well for a wideout-needy team such as New England.
The Patriots haven’t had a receiver catch more than four touchdowns in a season since 2022. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye could also get all the help the Patriots can find him this offseason.
If the Jets release Lazard instead of trading him, the Patriots could find a valuable receiver who may not take up too much salary cap space.
