THE Dallas Cowboys could struggle to rebuild after a disappointing campaign due to Dak Presoctt’s mammoth salary.
Prescott has a league-leading salary cap for the 2025 season of an eye-watering $89.9MILLION.

The Cowboys quarterback was handed a new four-year deal worth $240million last September to offer financial relief for the franchise, but now they face the reality of an unsustainable cap hit.
And with free-agency just around the corner on March 12, Dallas will now have to look at ways to make Prescott’s financial package more manageable to allow for new arrivals.
Fortunately, it’s understood that Prescott’s contract can be restructured to allow for what the Cowboys have described as a “selectively aggressive” recruitment process this offseason.
It’s thought that the 31-year-old’s deal could have the majority of his salary for the season converted into a signing bonus in order to lower the cap charge to around $50-$54m for the coming season – subsequently freeing up over $36m in cap space.
However, that move would effectively be kicking the can down the road for the Cowboys, who will have to pick up the slack of any restructuring at some point down the line.
The Cowboys could also restructure CeeDee Lamb’s deal to free up another $20m in cap space, while their negotiations with Micah Parsons over a new deal could also ease financial pressure for the new season.
Dallas had a frustrating 2024 campaign, putting up a 7-10 record and missing out on a place in the playoffs.
And there was concern that they would be without Prescott for the start of the 2025 season after the starting QB picked up a hamstring injury.
However, Prescott has vowed to be back for the first game of the season, having begun rehab on the issue.
He said: “I’m not gonna put a timeline on it.
“But I’ll be ready for the first game and when anything matters and very, very ready.”
He added: “I’m feeling good. I’m doing more and more.
“The last two weeks have been huge and progressive for me.
“I wouldn’t say I’m running full speed yet. But everything’s on the right track, and I’m excited.”
