FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys will honor and say goodbye to all-time great Zack Martin this week in an official retirement press conference on Wednesday here inside The Star.
The event is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. CT at team headquarters.
Martin, 34, is among the most decorated offensive linemen in NFL history as he spent his entire 11-year career playing for the Cowboys, where he was a nine-time Pro Bowler and a seven-time All-Pro guard.
Martin will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2030.
It’s a move that isn’t surprising but will nonetheless send more shock waves through the Cowboys locker room as they labor to replace a legend.
A stalwart entrenched at right guard, Martin in 2024 suffered the first season-ending injury of his 11-year career, undergoing ankle surgery after Week 14 in November. “This is not the time to have those discussions,” Martin said at the time.
“This is all I’ll say about that: It’s a tough situation, and the most important thing on my mind is getting healthy and then having those conversations down the road. But first and foremost, I want to get healthy and then maybe those conversations are a little bit easier.”
Martin was drafted in the first round in 2014 … and all this time later? The conversation has occurred. But that doesn’t make any of it “easy.”
