The defensive backs get their time to shine on the field Friday at the Scouting Combine. You can be certain the Cincinnati Bengals will be keeping a close eye on the group. The team needs plenty of help on the backend and that help could come from one or more of these players.
Here are three defensive backs in particular worth keeping an eye on as the day goes on Friday.
Jahdae Barron, Texas
Buzz has been growing that Barron could be a high pick in April, maybe perhaps the third or even second cornerback off the board. Barron was a key piece of the Texas defense that helped the Longhorns get to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He had 67 tackles, five interceptions and one sack.
Barron can also play safety. A player with his versatility could do wonders for new defensive coordinator Al Golden. Watch for Barron to showcase plenty of speed and athleticism in the drills.
Xavier Watts, Notre Dame
Speaking of Al Golden, how about one of his players at Notre Dame? You talk about someone that was a ballhawk in college, Watts recorded 13 total interceptions over the last two seasons. Think Golden wouldn’t love to have the opportunity to coach one of his best players from college in the pros? Watts may ends up as one of the fastest players in the group Friday.
Azareye’h Thomas, Florida State
Good size and strong movement ability makes Thomas one of the more intriguing cornerback options in this draft class. He’s set to join his brother, Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas, in the NFL. Thomas still has some developing to do, but he’s had himself a nice draft process thus far after a good week at the Senior Bowl. Look for him to continue his rise this week in Indianapolis.
