As rumors of Travis Kelce’s possible retirement continue to grow, the-Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the reality of a life without their franchise tight end. As the questions rise about how his loss would undermine the team’s offensive dominance, the Chiefs have possibly already found a signature playmaker on the roster who can step in and assist in the hole created by Kelce’s possible retirement.

Rashee Rice a suitable savior of the Chiefs if Travis Kelce retires

The Kansas City Chiefs may face a future without star tight end Travis Kelce, but speculation about his potential retirement suggests they have identified their next offense leader. Concerns over Kelce’s impact on the Chiefs’ offensive success are increasing, but the return of a star player could help mitigate the loss.

ESPN reporter Mina Kimes suggests Rashee Rice is crucial for Patrick Mahomes

‘ performance in the 2025/26 NFL season, addressing uncertainty surrounding the Chiefs’ offensive structure. “I think it’s a big loss,” Kimes acknowledged, referring to Kelce. “I also think, though, getting Rashee Rice [back], depending on his health, might compensate for that in some ways. I think the loss of Rashee Rice was kind of slept on.”
Rice, a skilled wide receiver, had shown much promise prior to his LCL tear in October 2024, which prematurely ended his season. As a rookie in 2023, he made an instant impact, recording 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games, with eight starts.
Before his injury in 2024, Rice had already accumulated 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in more than three games. His capacity for creating big plays downfield very rapidly became a decisive factor within the Chiefs’ offense, frequently overwhelming even Kelce in the game.
Rice’s availability in 2025 is uncertain due to a hit-and-run incident in Dallas in March 2024. The NFL may impose a suspension, but the length and certainty of any disciplinary action remain unclear. Kelce could be convinced to stay an extra year to help his side out if Rice is suspended.

After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss, fans and teammates are uncertain about Ohio-born athlete Kelce’s future. With three Super Bowl titles, Kelce has little left to prove, and recent reports suggest he is leaning toward returning for at least one more season rather than retiring. Kelce discusses the matter with Taylor Swift.
“There’s definitely a sense that Travis is going to try to play more,” NFL insider Dianna Russini weighed in on The Rich Eisen Show. “I haven’t heard anyone saying, ‘Yeah, he’s really struggling with what he wants to do.’ It’s definitely leaning more towards that.”
