Taylor Swift was in attendance at Super Bowl LIX to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. During the game, Swift was shown on the big screen at the Super Bowl and was largely booed by the crowd.
When Taylor Swift was showed on the jumbo-tron, she was booed by the Super Dome crowd, prompting her to ask her friend “What is going on?” Further reports indicate that Kelce felt heartbroken by Swift being viewed. Swift was likely booed because she’s a famous and successful woman who voiced an opinion not in favor of Donald Trump — she endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential election — thus angering the Super Bowl crowd.
In the weeks following the Super Bowl booing, Swift has lost over 140,000 followers on Instagram since being booed at the Super Bowl, as noted by the New York Post. Taylor Swift has over 282 million followers on Instagram, so she’s still quite popular on the platform, giving her the 14th biggest IG account in the world.
Super Bowl LIX was a generally rough experience for Swift, as the Kansas City Chiefs got blown out of the stadium by Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 40-22. Kelce also had a tough game personally, reeling in just four catches for 39 yards.
As for late February, Kelce has not confirmed whether or not he wants to play again next season. Prior to the start of last season, he signed a two-year contract extension with the team that would keep him in Kansas City through the 2025 campaign, which is this year. If Kelce does decide to play this season, he’s owed $17,250,000 in salary from the Chiefs.
