Following the Super Bow, the Kansas City Chiefs have 51 players signed to their active roster. While they currently roster two more players than their opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles (49), Kansa’s City was unable to sign everyone on their practice squad to future contracts. In fact, the Chiefs let seven players go, including wide receiver Montrell Washington.
As a result, Washington immediately entered free agency, meaning he was free to be signed whenever. As it turns out, Washington didn’t have to wait too long as it seems he has already found a new home. According to JL Sports on X, Washington has signed with the New York Giants.
Montrell Washington Joins the New York Giants
Washington was signed to the Chiefs practice squad on August 31, 2023. Following that, Washington was promoted to the active roster on September 27. However, he never saw the field, which led to his release from the active roster on October 19.
Nonetheless, Washington was brought back to the practice squad, meaning he was part of the 2023 Super Bowl team. Heading into the 2024 offseason, Washington was signed to a reserve/future contract
Yet again though, Washington didn’t see the field in 2024 even with all the injuries they had at receiver. So, it stands to reason why the Chiefs chose not to give him another reserve/future contract.
That said, Washington landing in New York makes sense, given their lack of talent. Rookie Malik Nabers was by far and away their best receiver this season, giving room for someone to cement themselves as the No.2 or No.3.
Only time will tell if Washington can do that, but Kansas City wishes him the best in his future.
