We are again at the stage of the season when free agents are being looked at by teams for potential fits, and once again, the Dallas Cowboys and Amari Cooper are thought to be a good pairing.
After Cooper was traded and dumped to the Cleveland Browns due to what our Mike Fisher called “shrinkage,” with Amari not consistent enough in his play, particularly on the road, the Cowboys felt it was better off without Cooper.
But yet here we are again, with the Cowboys named by The 33rd Team’s Ian Valentino as “the best spot” for Cooper this offseason.
“Dak Prescott and Cooper combined for a tremendous four-year stretch during which Cooper averaged just under 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns a season,” Valentino writes. “While Cooper had some issues with drops before his stint in Cleveland, he was a better playmaker than Dallas had in years until CeeDee Lamb showed up.
“The opportunity to pair Cooper with Lamb again should be enticing and affordable.”
Right. Here we go again.
Cooper and the Cowboys reuniting this offseason is not a move that would be supported by the Dallas scouting department … let’s put it that way.
And while we “never say never” due to the “fungible’ nature of the NFL, Dallas isn’t even close to being the “best” spot for Cooper.
Looking at his production this season, Cooper isn’t exactly an enticing thought, with just 547 yards and four touchdowns from 44 receptions. Plus, in the playoffs for the Bills, Cooper totaled just six catches for 41 yards … in three games.
Now, let’s get to the other odd thing about this report: Cooper is “affordable.”
