The Kansas City Chiefs may be licking their wounds after losing Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles by 18 points on Sunday, but their reign as perennial championship contenders isn’t necessarily over.

They should have perhaps an even stronger roster next season, especially with injured wide receiver Rashee Rice expected back, and they still have arguably the best coach in all of football in Andy Reid.

Reid has gotten lots of praise for coaching the Chiefs to three Vince Lombardi Trophies in the previous five seasons, but on Sunday, he was unable to make the right adjustments once his team fell behind by a sizable margin in the first half.

Commentator Rob Parker made a provocative statement when he said on Fox Sports Radio that Reid should step down from his role.

“Andy Reid should step down as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs…This fall off the cliff is 2 years in the making.”

Even though the Chiefs won it all last season, they didn’t do well in the regular season due to some poor offensive play, and despite a 15-2 record, they also didn’t play stellar ball.

Against the Eagles on Sunday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was often hit by the Eagles’ four-man rush, and Kansas City had virtually no run game on offense.

On the other hand, Reid deserves a lot of credit for changing the team’s style of play on offense after speedster wide receiver Tyreek Hill was traded following the 2021 season.

With Hill, they were a high-flying team, but since his departure, they have done relatively well as a dink-and-dunk team that looks to win mostly with defense.
