When the Detroit Lions drafted Terrion Arnold last spring, he seemed to be a perfect fit all-around. It didn’t take long for that to be proven during his rookie season.
Though Arnold had his ups and downs, as a rookie corner might, there was never a doubt he was a solid citizen and an obvious team leader. Now, looking to the offseason, Arnold is showing those traits again.
After watching the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl, Arnold posted a promise to fans on social media.
Brian Branch, one of Arnold’s running mate in the Detroit secondary, sent a similar message.
Terrion Arnold believes he improved greatly over course of rookie season
In order for the Lions to get where Arnold promises they are going, he’s going to elevate his play. Fortunately, the work he did in 2024 could get him to that point quickly. He saw the benefit of learning on the job first hand and believes he can apply those lessons.
“It was nothing but experience. A lot of teams sit back and play zone. I had to go out there and challenge wide receiver ones (in man coverage) and I’m young, so I know I’ll be the best corner in the league pretty soon. (I’m) very confident. Also, I know my coaches like (Dan) Campbell, (Aaron) Glenn, my defensive back coach Deshea (Townsend), they taught me a lot. Taught me how to deal with adversity. Even at the beginning of the season, the pass interference (penalties). It wasn’t a matter of talent, It was a matter of just turning your head (and) locating the ball. Those are things that you can fix. It was never a talent thing as far as lining up, somebody was better than me. It was just things from my inexperience not seeing (it). But, the only way to get better and gain experience is by being out there.”
The hope is the Lions can similarly learn from frustrations which doomed them late in the season and finally get over their championship hump. Arnold is already trying to speak it into existence.
