The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a rare blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX, falling 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite the Chiefs having extensive experience under the leadership of head coach Andy Reid, as well as quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they were outplayed on all three levels of the field.
Following the Super Bowl blowout, Reid spoke with the media, where he discussed the Chiefs’ struggles.
Reid believes Kansas City gave up too many turnovers and too many penalties in Super Bowl LIX, which the Eagles took advantage of.
“Too many turnovers, too many penalties,” Reid said, per KSHB 41. “Against a good football team, you just can’t do that.”
Mahomes finished the game with three touchdowns and 257 yards, completing 21-of-32 pass attempts. He also recorded two interceptions, both of which led to scoring plays for the Eagles.
The Chiefs quarterback gave up a pick-six to Eagles rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean. He was also picked off by Defensive Player of the Year finalist Zack Baun, in the Eagles’ red zone.
Both interceptions happened in the first half, but the struggles didn’t stop there. Mahomes gave up a fumble in the fourth quarter, when the Chiefs found themselves down 37-6 with nearly 10 minutes remaining.
The Chiefs also posted the most penalties they have had during their postseason run, giving up 75 yards to Philadelphia on seven accepted penalties.
