Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett confirmed weeks of NFL rumors, publicly requesting a trade to join a Super Bowl contender next season. While the Browns front office has been adamant about not trading the Defensive Player of the Year, offers from around the league could change that.

Garrett, who became the fourth-fastest player in NFL history to record 100 career sacks, will be heading into his age-29 season. He’s made it clear he doesn’t want to be a part of the Browns’ rebuild, eyeing an opportunity to join a perennial contender like the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles or Buffalo Bills. If that’s going to happen, the Browns’ front office will have to change its stance on a trade. While that’s not under consideration right now, trade packages offered by other clubs might help change the club’s mind.

Insider Reveals 'Baseline' for Trade Value of Browns Superstar

After speaking to NFL executives, Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN reported that the Browns would likely receive at least “two quality picks” back in exchange for Garrett. In any deal, the starting point would be a first-round pick with another potentially needing to be attached.

“People I’ve talked to about Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett’s trade market agree that his immense talent should garner at least two quality picks in return — either two first-rounders, or a first-rounder and a high-level Day 2 pick package.”

It’s worth noting that the expected return of draft picks would be a first-round pick and more even with a market of suitors that is expected to be “condensed” because of Garrett’s wishes. The All-Pro edge defender wants to play for a Super Bowl contender and he is also seeking a contract that makes him one of the highest paid NFL players.

Because of his desire for a contract extension, Garrett would have some leverage over which team lands him with no team likely willing to give up multiple premium picks for a two-year rental. As for the potential cost of extending Garrett, the average annual value could push toward $40 million per season.

While the Browns front office has repeatedly stated it won’t trade Garrett, multiple contenders are expected to reach out this offseason. Notably, those asked believe this situation “could drag on for a while”, with the hope that Cleveland eventually receives an offer before the 2025 NFL Draft it determines is too hard to pass up.
