The Kansas City Chiefs have a host of offensive talent for Patrick Mahomes to wheel and deal with, and against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, No. 15 will have his choice of where to go with the football.
Of course, that is predicated on him getting enough time to, but let’s say he does.
Who do the Eagles stop? Travis Kelce looms as the biggest weapon that could get off the chain, but given the Chiefs’ other receivers, there are plenty of options that can hurt the Eagles.
With a host of players embarking on their first Super Bowl appearance for the Chiefs, in a bold prediction by CBS Sports, Mahomes makes the Super Bowl one that DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown never forget.
“Hopkins has only one catch this postseason, and he didn’t have one in the divisional round, which ended his 184-game streak of having at least one catch in every game of his career, including the playoffs,” CBS Sports writes. “Brown has caught just 12 passes for 126 yards receiving in four games played, including the postseason. Mahomes will hit both for touchdowns in throwback moments for each wideout.”
But our NFL beat writer Mike Fisher, with 40 years on the job, offers a counterpoint.
Says Fish: “Throwback moments” to underused “name” receivers”? Is there a “secret weapon” factor here? We should note that in terms of targets in these playoffs, it has been all about the rookie Xavier Worthy (with 13) and all about the veteran Travis Kelce (the tight end with 12).
“So I’m not sure why we’ll unveiling ‘secret’ targets rather than jusr relying on ‘the best’ targets.”
We recognize that it’s the first Super Bowl appearance for the duo, and in this prediction setup, they both get their first touchdowns in the big game, too.
With other weapons like Xavier Worthy, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Noah Gray, the Chiefs have ample options for Mahomes, and he chooses to make it a night that Hopkins and Brown won’t forget in a hurry.
But what about Fish and those targets?
Once Mahomes and KC add it all up … Will that be enough for the Chiefs to claim the Super Bowl and a place in the history books?
We’re about to find out. … as the “secrets” are about to be unveiled.
