The three-time Super Bowl champion recently shared why he appreciates the high-profile romance, even calling his support for it “selfish.”

Edelman told PEOPLE that his daughter, Lily, has taken a greater interest in football ever since Swift started dating Kelce in 2023.

“I think it’s awesome because my daughter talks about football all the time because of Taylor Swift,” Edelman admitted. So, selfishly, I like it for that reason.”

Before the pop star entered the NFL world, Edelman noted that Lily would attend games but rarely talk to him about the sport.

Though he remains loyal to the Patriots, Edelman jokingly acknowledged the challenge of hearing his daughter constantly discuss the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It sucks to have to hear about the Chiefs all the time, and she’s got Patriot blood in her veins-literally born during a Super Bowl day in there. I guess it is what it is,” Edelman said.

Beyond his thoughts on Swift’s impact on football fans, Edelman is preparing for a major milestone in his post-playing career. He will be covering the Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles as a FOX Sports commentator.

“I’m very excited,” he told US Weekly about his new role.

“I’ve done the Super Bowl, not as a player retired, but this will be the first time that I get to cover it with FOX. We have a three-hour kickoff show, which is super exciting,” Edelman added.

The Patriots icon also expressed his enthusiasm for working alongside FOX’s broadcast team, including Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson.
