With Super Bowl LIX on the horizon, the NFL held opening night for the big game on Monday, where over 30,000 fans gathered in New Orleans to see both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs answer questions, get introduced, and interact with the public.
One wide receiver experiencing this for the first time is rookie Xavier Worthy, who has grown into one of the Chiefs’ most reliable weapons on the outside. The former Texas Longhorn hit the podium to answer questions, and one reporter asked him who he believes is the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. His answer, which might surprise some, showed off his youth at just 21 years old.
Worthy revealed that he believes current Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans, who just capped off his 11th consecutive season with 1,000-plus receiving yards, will go down as the best when he retires.
“The best? I’m not even gonna lie, a lot of people are not gonna like the answer, but I feel like Mike Evans, after he’s done, is going to be the best, because if you have the most 1,000-yard seasons, that makes you the best receiver, right? So that makes the most sense.”

As Worthy mentioned, since entering the league, Evans has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards every single season, tying Jerry Rice for the most consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus yards of all time. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler, a one-time Super Bowl champion, and has spent his entire 11-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Heading into next season, Evans will have 836 receptions, 12,684 receiving yards, and 105 touchdowns to his name, while averaging 15.2 yards per reception and 75.5 yards per game.
The only Super Bowl loss Patrick Mahomes has suffered with the Chiefs came at the hands of Evans and the Buccaneers during the 2020 season, when they were led by Tom Brady. Since then, Mahomes has only lost once more in the postseason.
