All parties — Chase, the Bengals, and fans — are hoping a deal gets done this offseason
Ja’Marr Chase has put up video game-like numbers at times throughout his first several seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has proven to be among the best at his craft, and having played on his rookie deal up to this point, it is time for Chase to look to get paid for his contributions.
However, new deals or extensions are always a little trickier than they seem, with all parties wanting to feel they get a good deal. Chase spoke out recently to ESPN on what he wants in his extension, and it doesn’t seem like he’s asking for much.
“I just hope I get what’s fair at the end of the day. Hopefully, I don’t put too much pressure on anybody, but I just want it to be fair, that’s all,” Chase said.
Again, the definition of fair may be a loose term for all three of those parties. Chase has proven to be arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, but after making Joe Burrow the highest-paid player in the league for a time, the Bengals version of fair may look different. So, what does it look like to Chase? Well, he answers that.
“Fair is just what I deserve,” Chase continued. “I can’t really say everything I want to say, but it’s what I deserve. It’s what I worked for. It’s how hard I worked for. It’s a written story already.”
Burrow spoke on what Chase brings to the team during the Pro Bowl festivities Thursday evening as well, and he seemed to resounding hope that a deal gets done. With Chase having three games this season in which he topped 175 yards for his quarterback, there’s a clear chemistry between the two that dates back to their time at LSU.
That said, here’s the video of Chase, so one can relate to his exact tone.

Having set numerous rookie records and franchise records, Chase has more than shown he’s capable of putting the offense on his back, and hopefully, he’ll get paid like it. With Burrow in the Queen City, Chase likely wants to stay around, but it doesn’t sound like any discount will be taken by the star receiver.
