Since Patrick Mahomes became the starter, the Kansas City Chiefs have been the gold standard for winning.
The Chiefs have made it to seven straight AFC Championship games, have made it to five Super Bowls, and are in with a shot at winning three straight titles.
But we have seen that soured by fans and media alike complaining about certain calls the Chiefs get in big games; ironically ones they win, and given that Andy Reid’s team wins more than any other team, people are tired of seeing the same team in the biggest game of the year.
However, what does Reid think about all the noise surrounding the Chiefs, with officials and people feeling fatigued over his team’s success?
“Yeah, I don’t care,” Reid said. “I honestly don’t get into that, I don’t use that with the guys. I mean I just want to make sure we get prepped and as coaches our responsibility is give them everything we can to be even greater than they already are. Then make sure we’re digging in on plays to help them with that and then for them to focus in on learning it and keeping themselves physically fit and mentally fit to go play. There’s enough to do just with that where you don’t even have to pay attention to the other stuff.”
Reid doesn’t care, and neither should he. He’s in the business of winning football games, and since having Mahomes under center, his team has done that better than most.
With a shot at history, many fans want to see someone finally knock off the Chiefs and prevent a third straight Super Bowl win, and the Philadelphia Eagles are the team tasked with that challenge.
In the Chiefs’ last three Super Bowl appearances, only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tom Brady has beaten Mahomes, and the Eagles have already failed once.
And they stand in Kansas City’s way with history at Reid’s fingertips.
