Report: Packers expected to hire Luke Getsy as a full-time coach in 2025 - Acme Packing Company

On Friday, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, who broke the news that the Green Bay Packers would be moving on from defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich earlier this offseason, stated that former Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy “is expected to land back on the Packers’ coaching staff in some capacity.” Obviously, the opening right now on Green Bay’s coaching staff is quarterbacks coach, as Tom Clements — who replaced Getsy in 2022 — is set to retire.

There is a possibility, though, that the Packers could be looking for a new offensive coordinator, as current offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich received a head coach interview request with the Chicago Bears. With the league’s head coaching vacancies almost filled, the wave of coordinator hires is coming soon. In the past, head coach Matt LaFleur has stated that he would let non-play-calling coordinators leave for play-calling opportunities.

When Nathaniel Hackett left as the Packers’ offensive coordinator in 2022 to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos, LaFleur’s first choice to replace Hackett was Getsy. Getsy received the opportunity to call plays for the Bears, though, so LaFleur ended up pivoting to Stenavich.

If Getsy does come back to the Packers as an offensive coordinator, it would be a very different role than the play-calling role that he played with the Bears from 2022 to 2023 and the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. In Green Bay, with LaFleur as the play-caller, the offensive coordinator job is more about prepping and running meetings — which takes things off of LaFleur’s plate — than constructing game plans.

Should Getsy get the offensive coordinator job instead of filling in as the team’s quarterbacks coach, internal options at quarterbacks coach include Sean Mannion, a former LaFleur quarterback who is currently an offensive assistant with the team, and Connor Lewis, the Packers’ assistant quarterbacks coach who previously worked in Green Bay’s analytics and clock management departments. The Packers have interviewed at least one outside candidate, now New England Patriots quarterback coach Ashton Grant, in their search for a new quarterbacks coach.

After Getsy was let go by the Raiders mid-season in 2024, he returned to the Packers as a defensive consultant who reverse-engineered opposing offenses for Green Bay’s defensive staff. It’s safe to say that he and LaFleur still have a working relationship.
