This matchup is steeped in drama, as Kansas City looks to avenge their Week 11 loss to Buffalo. The Bills secured a decisive 30-21 victory in that regular-season clash. For the Chiefs to reverse the outcome, they’ll need a standout performance from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his receivers, who struggled to deliver big plays against the Texans.
Kansas City’s preparations for the AFC Championship face uncertainty with wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s injury status. On Monday, head coach Andy Reid provided an update that lacked optimism.
“We’ll see how that goes. I haven’t made any decisions on that yet. He’s worked so hard to try and get himself back,” Reid said, as reported by Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports.
Hardman, 26, has been sidelined since Dec. 7 after sustaining a knee injury during practice. Though he was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this month, Reid’s comments suggest his availability remains doubtful.

During the regular season, Hardman played a dual role on offense and special teams. In 12 games, he recorded 12 receptions for 90 yards and a rushing touchdown. On special teams, he served as Kansas City’s primary punt returner, averaging 10.2 yards per return, and also contributed to kick returns with a 26.4-yard average.
While the Chiefs hope for Hardman’s return, they remain confident in their current roster. “We’ve got guys who can step up and get the job done,” Reid said, emphasizing the team’s depth and versatility.
AFC Championship: The Battle for Super Bowl Glory
The AFC Championship game is set to be a marquee showdown, with the Chiefs aiming to continue their dynasty and the Bills striving to end Kansas City’s reign. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen, one of the few signal-callers who can match Mahomes’ postseason prowess, will look to lead his team to their first Super Bowl appearance in decades.
The game will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ at 5:30 PM CT on Sunday. With Kansas City entering as 1.5-point favorites, fans can expect an electrifying contest with Super Bowl dreams on the line.
