BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys’ Deion Sanders Pursuit Gets Discouraging Update

Cowboys Get Key Update on Deion Sanders Pursuit

The Dallas Cowboys are in search of a new head coach after they parted ways with Mike McCarthy earlier this week. One of the top names in their search has been Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, but the team’s pursuit of their former player has been hit with a discouraging update.

The Cowboys could not agree to a new deal with McCarthy, resulting in him becoming a free agent on the head coaching market. Dallas was forced to start their search for a new head coach later than the other teams in need of a new leader, but they were quickly linked to Sanders.

The Buffaloes head coach spent five seasons of his Hall of Fame career in the NFL with the Cowboys, and he already has a relationship with the team’s owner, Jerry Jones. However, the brakes have been pumped on the rumors linking Sanders to Dallas, as the team has yet to set up an official head coach interview with him.

“I’ve talked to somebody with the team, they said they have no formal requests out, including with Colorado, they haven’t formally requested to speak with Deion Sanders,” Jeremy Fowler said on “Sportscenter.” “We do know he’s a candidate, that there is a level of mutual interest. People I talk to with the team wouldn’t consider him the favorite right now…but he is in the mix.”

Given Sanders’ high profile, and his previous link to the Cowboys, a lot of hype quickly built up surrounding his candidacy to become Dallas’ new head coach. It doesn’t look like he’s the top candidate, though, as Kellen Moore, Robert Saleh, and Leslie Frazier have emerged as the top three candidates for the time being.

Things could obviously change as time goes on for the Cowboys, but it doesn’t look like Sanders is a shoe-in to become their next head coach. The interest between the two sides does exist, though, so it will be worth keeping tabs on these two parties to see if the level of interest from either side ends up changing.
