After having a bye in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round on Saturday afternoon.
Kelce and other key starters on the Chiefs have received plenty of rest before their first postseason battle. After securing the AFC’s No. 1 seed in Week 17, Kansas City elected to rest their starters in Week 18. And with no game this past weekend, that’s almost three weeks since some of its players have played.
Even with Kelce still seeing success on the football field, many wonder if this could be the 35-year-olds final playoff run. The former Cincinnati Bearcats star has hinted at retirement in the past, but he cleared the air up a bit on Tuesday.
On the latest episode of “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Kelce made a guest appearance where they discussed his potential retirement. When Smith asked Kelce if he was still considering retirement, the tight end gave his thoughts.
“It changes every single day,” Kelce said. “I love everything I’m doing in this building, but at the end of the day, I’m not having that extreme success on the field as I have individually, man.”
Then, Kelce revealed one of the reasons he has contemplated retirement.
“Well the biggest thing is, some of the most fun you ever have in this game is having the ball in your hands,” Kelce added.. “That being said, making guys miss is something I always prided myself on. That was the staple… Over the past years, being able to make guys miss has gotten a little bit tougher… That’s the biggest thing is being able to make guys miss in space.”

Kelce has had a relatively down season in terms of statistics. He recorded 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns. Although he was named a Pro Bowler for a tenth-straight season, Kelce has had his worst statistical year since 2015 and is starting to show his age.
Still, it seems likely Kelce won’t make that decision any time soon as the Chiefs continue their run at a third-straight Super Bowl.
