The latest the OBR has learned on Cleveland #Browns QB Deshaun Watson’s curious injury situation.
Deshaun Watson’s second Achilles’ tear and resulting surgery virtually eliminates any chance of him returning to the field this season, but puts his career in jeopardy. That simplifies the football side of things, but there are a number of questions that remain unanswered.
Much of the attention regarding Watson’s injury has been on the insurance element. The Browns insured $44.3 million worth of his contract. Presuming he’s unable to be available for the entire season, they will get some amount of cap relief back for 2026. It’s not yet known what that figure will look like.
Of greater interest to the Browns is the manner in which Watson got injured. If he simply got hurt doing what he was supposed to be doing, then the Browns remain on the hook for the money they owe him. And for Watson, he would get all of it. The reason there are questions is because if Watson did something he wasn’t supposed to be doing and that resulted in the injury, it could have drastic consequences as far as the money he would be paid.
