Drake Maye was limited at Wednesday\u2019s practice due to a new injury to his right hand, according to the Patriots.<\/p>\n

With New England in line to land the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft if they lose to Buffalo on Sunday, there\u2019s been plenty of speculation about how they\u2019ll play things. On Wednesday morning, Jerod Mayo said Maye was the starter, but added the caveat that he\u2019ll play if he\u2019s \u201chealthy and ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Immediately after Mayo\u2019s press conference, Maye said he was indeed healthy and didn\u2019t believe there was any reason he wouldn\u2019t play.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel great,\u201d Maye said. \u201cI woke up feeling good, thank the good Lord. It\u2019s another day to get out here, and I\u2019m looking forward to getting out there Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019m going to be the starter, so I\u2019m looking forward to being out there. I\u2019m ready to go out there and win and compete in a close game. I want to be out there. You get experiences in these close games that you can\u2019t replicate in practice. You can\u2019t get those reps anywhere else. So, looking forward to getting one more chance at these guys and end off on a good note.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Maye isn\u2019t under center on Sunday, Joe Milton III could see his first action of the season. Speaking to MassLive\u2019s Mark Daniels, Milton said it was business as usual for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI approach the week just like every other week. It\u2019s another game week. Another opportunity. It\u2019s a new week\u2014a new blessing. We\u2019ve got a new year started today. I feel great,\u201d Milton told Daniels. \u201cNo matter what, I\u2019m always down to compete. My high school coach always told me, competition creates extension, so I feel like no matter what, as long as you compete, at the end of the day, you always win. If my name gets called, go out there and compete.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever happens, happens,\u201d Milton said. \u201cWhenever my name gets called, it gets called.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Patriots had four players absent at Wednesday\u2019s session: Christian Gonzalez and Ben Brown are both still in the concussion protocol, Kayshon Boutte is battling an illness, and Ja\u2019Lynn Polk is dealing with a new shoulder injury.<\/p>\n
