As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Houston Texans on Saturday, safety Justin Reid looks forward to playing against his former team. He spent his first four NFL seasons in Houston \u2014 and still has a lot of respect for the team and its head coach DeMeco Ryans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a playoff-caliber team,\u201d he told reporters on Thursday. \u201cThey have a bunch of talent on that team. DeMeco has done a good job rallying those guys \u2014 especially with all of the young [players] they have \u2014 to have them going in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reid fondly remembers his time in Houston.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m happy that they\u2019re doing well,\u201d he remarked, \u201cbut also excited for the opportunity to play against them. It\u2019s always fun playing your old team because you know everybody on the field at the same time \u2014 so it\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the team\u2019s 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered yet another ankle injury. There has been debate about whether he would \u2014 or should \u2014 play in Saturday\u2019s game. Reid said that during this week\u2019s practices, Mahomes has been \u201chimself\u201d \u2014 but then moved on to other matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI play on the defensive side of the ball,\u201d he explained, \u201cso our job never changes \u2014 regardless of whatever\u2019s happening around us. [We\u2019re] just going to stop the Houston Texans offense from scoring points. That\u2019s what the focus is.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reid believes the defense\u2019s success in Cleveland \u2014 including six takeaways and five sacks \u2014 can help them in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about catching momentum at the right time,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited. It\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve been able to get some turnovers. [If] we can start this train now \u2014 in December going into the playoffs \u2014 that\u2019d be really good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s matchup could be comparable to playoff football with a home-field advantage. The team will be bolstered by the energy of the Chiefs\u2019 fans \u2014 whom Reid doesn\u2019t take for granted.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t beat the atmosphere here,\u201d he said of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s 80\u00b0 outside or if it\u2019s -30\u00b0 outside, it\u2019s going to be the same atmosphere every time.
