The Kansas City Chiefs continued to roll toward the AFC’s No. 1 seed after a\u00a021-7 win over the Cleveland Browns, but there is concern over star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n

Suffering what we now know to be a high ankle sprain and is considered week-to-week, the three-time Super Bowl champion was rolled up on from behind but was also hit from the front in what was an awkward hit as he was trying to make a play.<\/p>\n
Given that the Chiefs had the game in hand over the Browns, head coach Andy Reid made the call to pull Patrick from the game. Reid stated post-game that Mahomes probably could have gone back in and finished the game, but the team clearly wanted to be cautious.<\/p>\n
Now, Mahomes has given his thoughts on the grim ankle injury.<\/p>\n

“I was trying to run up in the pocket, obviously fourth down trying to make a play happen, and as I threw the ball, I kind of got hit,”\u00a0Mahomes said. “It felt like someone hit me from behind as well, and so I kind of just got rolled up on, kind of happens in football. [I] tried to bounce back up, but obviously it hurt a little bit now we’ll just get after the rehab part of it and try to be ready for next week.”<\/p>\n
The Chiefs’ schedule doesn’t do Mahomes any favors as he tries to recover in time to face the Houston Texans in a few days, and then just four days after that, Kansas City faces the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n
So the franchise has a decision to make, and with the No. 1 seed basically achieved, there is a chance for the Chiefs to rest Mahomes for the Texans clash in an attempt to get his ankle healed.<\/p>\n
While that is just an idea, we will get a better idea of how Mahomes is traveling in the next 48 hours, but it appears he is facing a race against time to be ready to go against Houston.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
