Against the Devils, forward Jason Dickinson<\/strong> tallied his sixth goal of the 2024-25 campaign and now has four points (2G, 2A) over his last five games. The goal for Dickinson is the 150th point (67G, 83A) of his NHL career. Blackhawks penalty killers went a perfect 3-for-3 (100%) on Saturday against New Jersey and have now killed off 21-straight shorthanded opportunities since Nov. 27 vs. DAL. Since Nov. 1, Chicago’s penalty kill is clicking at 88.9%, which ranks first in the NHL. During the 2024-25 season, the clubs penalty kill is operating at 83.7%, which ranks fifth in the league.<\/p>\n

Islanders Place Goalie On Injured Reserve, Recall Waived Forward Ahead Of Game vs. Chicago<\/h1>\n

Pierre Engvall is back up.<\/p>\n

According to the NHL media site, the\u00a0New York Islanders\u00a0have placed goaltender Semyon Varlamov on injured reserve and recalled forward\u00a0Pierre Engvall\u00a0from Bridgeport ahead of their game against the\u00a0Chicago Blackhawks.<\/p>\n

Varlamov has not skated since the team’s 5-4 overtime loss to the\u00a0Washington Capitals\u00a0on Nov. 29, so an IR stint made sense. The media site does not differentiate between IR (roster spot) and LTIR ($2.75 in cap relief and roster spot).<\/p>\n

If Varlamov is on LTIR, he will have to miss 10 games AND 24 days, dating back to Nov. 29, which means he isn’t eligible to return unit Dec. 24.<\/p>\n

Per\u00a0PuckPedia, which does differentiate, they have Varlamov on just IR, which means all he has to miss to return is seven days. He’s done that.<\/p>\n

Starting netminder Ilya Sorokin will make his eighth straight start on Sunday and is likely to start all the games in Varlamov’s absence, with Marcus Hogberg serving as the backup.<\/p>\n

Engvall, who cleared waivers on Saturday, is back up, likely due to\u00a0Bo Horvat’s and Anthony Duclair’s statuses.<\/p>\n

Horvat suffered a lower-body injury in the 5-4 win against the Blackhawks on Thursday night. He is day-to-day but did make the trip.<\/p>\n

However, with Anthony Duclair (lower body) not ready to return just yet, the Islanders would have been forced into an 11-forward, seven-defenseman situation had they not recalled a forward.<\/p>\n

We will see what the lineup looks like during warmups.<\/p>\n
