Dallas Cowboys Owner Raises Eyebrows When Discussing Dak Prescott\u2019s Leadership Capabilities<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

It seems like ever since Dak Prescott has taken over as the Dallas Cowboys\u2019 starting quarterback, anything spoken about him has been analyzed from 10 different angles. One terrible playoff game results in a whole week of debate show fodder. This week was another example of this, when Prescott and the Cowboys\u2019 co-owner Stephen Jones commented on his leadership capabilities.<\/p>\n

Prescott and the Cowboys: Team Leadership Is Important<\/h3>\n

In an interview with the\u00a0Dallas Morning News, Stephen Jones had the following to say about Prescott and the\u00a0Cowboys heading into the 2026 season. He specifically cited Prescott as a team leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, it all starts \u2014 and that\u2019s been my theme with a lot of the players we\u2019ve added, whether it\u2019s\u00a0Quinnen Williams, whether it\u2019s Kenny Clark,\u00a0whether it\u2019s Caleb Downs\u00a0\u2014 you start with the leadership,\u201d Jones said. \u201cIn order to be a leader in the NFL, you have to be a great player on the field.\u00a0<\/em>Dak certainly [is] a great player on the field, he\u2019s certainly the leader of our football team. You\u2019ve got to have leaders on defense and leaders on offense, and then you\u2019ve got the leader of the team and Dak checks every box when it comes to that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Jones also made it pretty clear that leadership inside the organization is tied directly to production on the field. That matters because one of the biggest criticisms surrounding Prescott and the Cowboys. The question has always been whether Prescott can still lead a team capable of competing for a championship after repeated postseason disappointments. Jones essentially shut that entire discussion down with these comments.<\/p>\n

A Super Bowl Is All That Is Missing<\/h3>\n

Jones continued to discuss Prescott and said he felt the only thing Prescott was missing from his resume was a Super Bowl victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think all he\u2019s missing from an amazing r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is the championship and no one wants to win more than he does,\u201d Jones said. \u201cHe sets that tone every day that he walks into the building. He does everything the right way and we\u2019re just fortunate to have him as the leader of this football team.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The biggest takeaway from this is that the Cowboys, like Prescott himself, appear to still think they can eventually get over the hump together. Jones may have stated that Prescott\u2019s resume doesn\u2019t yet include a championship, but there seems to be no doubt from the organization about Prescott\u2019s leadership, work ethic, and the respect he holds within the locker room. That won\u2019t likely shut up those who will forever only look at Prescott\u2019s playoff numbers, but on the inside, the Cowboys sounds like a franchise unwilling to go anywhere else. If anything, it almost didn\u2019t sound like a defense of Prescott, and rather a reassertion of the team\u2019s faith in him to carry the franchise back to Super Bowl glory.<\/p>\n

Prescott and the Cowboys Still Moving Forward Together<\/h3>\n

Love him or hate him, the consensus from within the organization is pretty strong. Prescott and the Cowboys will be continuing their relationship long term, for better or for worse. The outside criticism of the Cowboys is going to continue to pile up for the foreseeable future, as they continue to fail to meet championship expectations on a yearly basis. But publicly and privately, the organization stands firm in their belief in their quarterback. Ultimately though, every single compliment, discussion of leadership and declaration of trust involving Prescott will always end up with the discussion of his postseason success and more so failures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
