<\/p>\nAll through the offseason, the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0brass has insisted that the most important move it made since the end of 2025 has not been the trade for\u00a0Rashan Gary\u00a0or the franchise tag contract for\u00a0George Pickens\u00a0or the record contract for\u00a0Brandon Aubrey\u00a0or the drafting of\u00a0Caleb Downs. All that is positive, for sure, and for a roster that needed to hold its good pieces on offense and add some more on defense, there was plenty of good news.<\/p>\n

But both Jerry Jones and COO Stephen Jones, as well as head coach Brian Schottenheimer, have been adamant that what mattered most this winter was not so much the personnel, but the one new person in the building who can bring it all together: new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.<\/p>\n
Cowboys\u2019 Christian Parker Will \u2018Look Good\u2019 With Super Bowl Trip<\/p>\n
Remember what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said about Parker at the\u00a0NFL\u00a0owners\u2019 meetings in March? Jones was asked about the top new additions on defense, headlined by Gary and safety Jalen Thompson, and whether it was, in fact, Parker who was the most important addition.<\/p>\n
Said Jones: \u201cHe certainly is right there as a contender. He is. He\u2019s impressive. He was impressive in interviews and he\u2019s been impressive to work with. It\u2019s a great win-win. We appreciate all he\u2019s bringing to the table, from where he is \u2014 by the way, I can say that about several of the other position coaches as well \u2014 but he has a great chance to look good, because he\u2019s not coming in with a Super Bowl defense.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd should he end up with one, then he\u2019ll look like one of the greatest defensive minded coaches there is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Christian Parker Could Be a Head Coach Soon<\/p>\n
There is no need, of course, to reiterate just how poor the Cowboys defense was in 2025, other than to say it gave up 511 points, the most by any defense in franchise history. Scheme, organization, personnel\u2013it all went wrong. And Parker has the job of fixing it.<\/p>\n
One analyst and reporter who has been very high on Parker all along has been ESPN\u2019s Peter Schrager, who said in a video this week that Parker could be the key to getting the Cowboys into contention after back-to-back seven-win seasons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cowboys wake up from this nightmare of last season, where their offense was high-flying and they traded Micah Parsons and they thought they could get by,\u201d\u00a0Schrager said. \u201cAnd then their defense was absolute crap. They wake up from this nightmare and they\u2019re like, wait a second, we suddenly have\u00a0Rashan Gary. We suddenly have Malachi Lawrence, we still have Kenny Clark in the middle.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd oh, by the way, we spent in free agency a little bit and now we\u2019ve got Caleb Downs and the new defensive coordinator who, by the way, is going to be a head coach very soon if they have success on defense.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cowboys Defense Key to Becoming a Contender<\/p>\n
One of the keys for Parker is his ability to teach. At 34 years old, he is a departure from the retread head coach model the Cowboys have used in the past when finding defensive coordinators. He brings a level of energy that the likes of Matt Eberflus or Mike Zimmer were never going to bring, and that sets him apart, Schrager said.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cChristian Parker, the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, might be the most fascinating person in the NFL this season. He\u2019s 34 years old and an absolute firebrand, like, out of bed and energy, energy, energy. Beloved by players. And he comes from the rival\u00a0Eagles. \u2026<\/p>\n
