<\/p>\nAfter the legal issues that former\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0wide receiver\u00a0Stefon Diggs\u00a0faced had been hanging over his head this offseason, he was\u00a0found not guilty\u00a0on Tuesday. Now, he can return his focus to the field and find a new team.<\/p>\n
One person who expects Diggs to quickly find a new team is his lawyer. Shortly after the verdict was read, he spoke to several media members, predicting that it won\u2019t be long until Diggs is signed to a new deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been vindicated,\u201d the lawyer\u00a0said. \u201cAnd I believe that a team will reach out and sign him imminently. They\u2019re going to be lucky to get him.\u201d<\/p>\n
It would not be a surprise if the legal issues that Diggs faced did slow down interest from teams around the\u00a0NFL. In particular, if there was fear that he would be facing punishment under the league\u2019s Personal Conduct Policy.<\/p>\n
One thing is clear, Diggs can still contribute to an NFL team. Last season, he helped get the Patriots to the Super Bowl. That came on the back of 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns in the regular season.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny team that signs him will be lucky to have him,\u201d the lawyer added. \u201cWe are very pleased and happy that Stefon will continue on and play football in the National Football League.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefon Diggs has been facing these legal issues since December, and they would hang over him for the end of the regular season and into the postseason. That came after his personal chef, a woman, accused him of strangling her over a dispute.<\/p>\n
Notably, the chef, Jamila Adams, was a live-in chef for Diggs. She would testify that the two did have a sexual relationship.<\/p>\n
Diggs would be charged with one count of felony strangulation and one count of misdemeanor assault and battery. The strangulation charge could have landed Diggs in prison for five years. However, after about 90 minutes of deliberation, he was found not guilty by the jury.<\/p>\n
\u201cStefon was not going to settle this case,\u201d Diggs\u2019 lawyer said. \u201cHe was falsely accused and he wanted everyone to know that\u2026 I was surprised then. I was surprised yesterday. I\u2019m still surprised. This case never should have been brought. It was a waste of resources.\u201d<\/p>\n
Diggs was notably emotional when the verdict was read. Of course, given the circumstances, that shouldn\u2019t be a surprise.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an emotional thing to have false allegations levied at you,\u201d the lawyer said. \u201cThis has impacted him both personally and professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Diggs has been in the news throughout the offseason, so have the New England Patriots themselves. In particular, for how they\u2019re building their wide receiver room after Diggs\u2019 departure.<\/p>\n
The Patriots released Diggs back in March, at the start of the new league year. Since then, New England signed\u00a0Romeo Doubs\u00a0to a contract. On top of that, the Patriots have consistently been involved in rumors for\u00a0Philadelphia Eagles\u00a0wide receiver\u00a0A.J. Brown, with most experts expecting he\u2019ll be traded to New England in June.<\/p>\n
That has also sparked rumors around\u00a0Kayshon Boutte. In particular, to free up some space, he\u2019ll be moved in his own trade. So, the future is a bit uncertain for the Patriots at wide receiver still.<\/p>\n
