The\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0might have to consider replacing kicker Brandon Aubrey this offseason.<\/p>\n
Aubrey, 30, is due for a new contract this offseason. As of right now, Harrison Butker is the highest-paid kicker in the league with an average salary of $6.4 million. Jake Elliott is right behind at $6 million per year.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones opened up about Aubrey\u2019s future with the team. He acknowledged that a long-term deal hasn\u2019t been worked out yet.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been in talks with Aubrey since before the season started,\u201d Jones said. \u201cThat\u2019s been a journey. We haven\u2019t been able to get to a point where we can all agree so it hasn\u2019t gotten done, but we\u2019d love to get him done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, we now know why the Cowboys haven\u2019t agreed to terms on an extension with Aubrey.<\/p>\n
Clarence Hill Jr. is reporting\u00a0that Aubrey has an offer on the table that would make him the highest-paid kicker in the\u00a0NFL. However, he\u2019s hoping to receive a bit more money.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d imagine, Cowboys fans are frustrated by Aubrey\u2019s contract demands.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s ridiculous. He has no leverage cause they can tender him. No reason to fight it if they are willing to make you the highest paid at the position,\u201d a Cowboys fan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAint no way we can let a kicker hold us hostage,\u201d a second fan commented.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not always the team fault. If a team give u a contracts that highest at the position u take it,\u201d a social media user wrote. \u201cIf he wants something crazy slap that second round tender and leave it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHighest paid K right now it\u2019s Butker up in KC making 6.4m\/year, idk how far above that the offer is but anything over 7m\/year is a reach,\u201d another fan said.<\/p>\n
Since joining the Cowboys in 2023, Aubrey has made 112 of 127 field goal attempts. The three-time Pro Bowler has excelled from long range, making 35 field goals from at least 50 yards out.<\/p>\n
If the Cowboys are unwilling to meet Aubrey\u2019s contract demands, they may want to consider using a second-round tender on him. That would at least give them some leverage in the event he wants out.<\/p>\n
Make no mistake though, losing Aubrey would be a devastating blow to the Cowboys\u2019 kicking game. He\u2019s got such a massive leg that Dallas is essentially in field goal range once the offense reaches midfield.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
