It\u2019s not clear yet if he will return in time to start the season, but SI.com\u2019s Fernando Alfaro-Donis identified a bigger, more long-term concern for the Chiefs if Mahomes is not able to return to his previous form.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>As Alfaro-Donis noted, the team is turning the page back to the past by bringing Eric Bieniemy back as offensive coordinator. He predicted it could help the team reverse its decline in the offense, which hit Mahomes hard last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Mahomes and the Chiefs\u2019 offense weren\u2019t their biggest problem last season, his production has been declining ever since Bieniemy left,\u201d Alfaro-Donis wrote. \u201cTheir passing game wasn\u2019t particularly impressive in 2025, and it oftentimes felt like their offense fell entirely on the shoulders of Mahomes and his playmaking skills outside of structure. It also impacted Mahomes\u2019 play, with him starting to ditch clean pockets early and scramble around to get his receivers some separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Alfaro-Donis predicted it would be the injury recovery that plays the biggest role in the future, warning that the Chiefs could see their Super Bowl dynasty come to an end if Mahomes isn\u2019t able to return to his previous form.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUltimately, the success of the Chiefs falls on whether Mahomes\u2019 injury doesn\u2019t hinder him too much,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThey\u2019re making the right moves to bolster their roster and coaching staff, but if he isn\u2019t up to speed, the Chiefs\u2019 dynasty as we know it may be over.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kansas City Chiefs could see their Super Bowl dynasty come to an end if Patrick Mahomes can&#8217;t return to form after his injury.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":43707,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-43706","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-kansas-city-chiefs"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.7 -
