The Dallas Cowboys made their first big move of the offseason when they signed running back Javonte Williams to a three-year, $24 million deal. That decision answered one question about their backfield.However, it also shifted attention to another pressing issue inside the building.<\/p>\n

Now, the focus turns to the Brandon Aubrey contract situation. As March 2026 approaches, Dallas wants clarity. The front office has made it clear that locking in their Pro Bowl kicker remains a top priority after the Williams’ move.<\/p>\n

Dallas Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones spoke to The Dallas Morning News and addressed the Brandon Aubrey contract negotiations directly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been working on a long-term deal for some time,\u201d Jones said in his interview with The Dallas Morning News. \u201cWe\u2019ve exchanged offers, and the goal is to get him signed. We\u2019ll tender him before the deadline if that\u2019s what we have to decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

That comment outlines the team\u2019s strategy. Aubrey is set to become a restricted free agent. Therefore, if the sides fail to agree on a long-term Brandon Aubrey contract before the March 11 deadline, the Cowboys can place a tender on him.<\/p>\n

In that case, other teams may negotiate, but Dallas would hold the right of first refusal.<\/p>\n

The urgency makes sense. Aubrey has delivered elite production since arriving in 2023. He went 36 of 38 on field goals in his rookie season. In 2024, he converted 40 of 47 attempts. Then in 2025, he finished 36 of 42 despite the team\u2019s 7-9-1 record under head coach Brian Schottenheimer. He has also drilled a 65-yard field goal and owns the NFL record for the most field goals from 60 yards or more.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, outside interest could surface. On Feb. 21, 2026, CBS Sports analyst John Breech said on CBS Sports HQ that the Los Angeles Rams might explore adding Aubrey if Dallas does not complete the deal. He called Aubrey \u201cthe ultimate kicking weapon\u201d and questioned Jerry Jones\u2019 history of paying top-of-the-market contracts.<\/p>\n

Still, all signs point to Dallas closing the Brandon Aubrey contract talks soon. After spending on Williams, the Cowboys understand the value of keeping their most dependable scorer. In tight NFC battles, three points often decide everything. Dallas does not want to gamble with that.
