The Chiefs, meanwhile, have had one such pick in that period \u2013 when they traded up in 2017 to take Patrick Mahomes 10th overall.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images2.minutemediacdn.com\/image\/upload\/c_crop,x_0,y_181,w_2148,h_1208\/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto\/images\/ImagnImages\/mmsport\/arrowhead_report\/01khyr011hhk099n3n08.jpg\" alt=\"patrick mahome\" \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\">\u201cAnd nobody wants to be picking at ninth, but we are,\u201d Reid said Friday afternoon in advance of the scouting combine, which begins next week in Indianapolis. \u201cThat&#8217;s the reality of it. So, you dig in and you put a plan together and go for it the best you can.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-5\">Deep draft for wide receivers and edge-rushers<\/h2>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\">The Chiefs are going to need their best in the draft. With minimal salary-cap space to commit to free agents next month, the draft is the best avenue to fix their personnel issues. Kansas City\u2019s most important needs are running back, wide receiver and edge-rusher, with plenty of enticing options available over the first two rounds.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images2.minutemediacdn.com\/image\/upload\/c_crop,x_0,y_0,w_4689,h_2637\/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto\/images\/ImagnImages\/mmsport\/arrowhead_report\/01khyr49brh1hp5f2maj.jpg\" alt=\"chief\" \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\">\u201cYou try to find some positives and sitting where you&#8217;re where you&#8217;re at,\u201d Reid added, \u201cand why you&#8217;re there, and then the positives are you get yourself geared down and get better. And so, this has a chance to help you get better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\">Reid said general manager Brett Veach has had his personnel staff and scouts in Kansas City for meetings since the season ended. Their mission was to overturn every pebble in finalizing their free-agent board and preliminary combine road map.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images2.minutemediacdn.com\/image\/upload\/c_crop,x_0,y_0,w_3514,h_1976\/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto\/images\/ImagnImages\/mmsport\/arrowhead_report\/01khyr5mzvw0pzxakr1n.jpg\" alt=\"mahomes, veac\" \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-11\">Locked down<\/h2>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\">\u201cThey\u2019ve done a couple lockdowns already,\u201d Reid said, \u201cwhere he&#8217;s had them in for a couple of weeks. And they live in that room and go through all these different players. And so, good things normally come out of those meetings, and we look forward to how the draft goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\">How that draft goes, or free agency for that matter, could be affected by the legal issues currently facing wide receiver Rashee Rice. The NFL on Wednesday confirmed that the matter remains under its review, leaving open the possibility that Rice could be headed for another suspension under the league\u2019s personal conduct policy.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images2.minutemediacdn.com\/image\/upload\/c_crop,x_0,y_285,w_2290,h_1288\/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto\/images\/ImagnImages\/mmsport\/arrowhead_report\/01khyr7czf9sa4kn87eb.jpg\" alt=\"rashee ric\" \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\">But Reid said, at least at this stage, the Rice situation doesn\u2019t change any plans the team is making in the draft or free agency.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\">\u201cI would tell you, no,\u201d Reid said. \u201cI mean, I can&#8217;t comment on Rashee\u2019s situation. I mean, it&#8217;s in law enforcement&#8217;s hands. So, there&#8217;s no comment there.
