The\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0are expected to look to bring in some new weapons for Drake Maye and the offense.<\/p>\n

New England will enter the offseason with plenty of cap space to make a splash in free agency. The Patriots have also been linked to plenty of receivers through trades, but one name that could come up is speedy receiver Deebo Samuel.<\/p>\n

However, NFL analyst Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston urges the Patriots to avoid signing Samuel in free agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cSamuel is one of the more gifted wideouts set to hit free agency, but he’s a high-risk, high-reward player at this stage of his career,\u201d Leger\u00a0wrote\u00a0in an article published on Wednesday. \u201cHe\u2019s entering his age-30 season and, despite his versatility and elite yards-after-catch ability, isn’t worth the hefty price tag he’ll likely command on the open market.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast season with the Washington Commanders, Samuel totaled 72 catches for 727 yards and five touchdowns. While he was productive despite a tumultuous year for Washington, he no longer appears to be a true WR1. The Patriots should aim higher — and younger — for a wide receiver upgrade.\u201d<\/p>\n

When healthy, Samuel is a dynamic, speedy receiver who produces plenty of yards after catch. However, he has dealt with minor injuries at times, but has been able to play in 15+ games in three-straight seasons. However, he is getting older, so it would be wise for the Patriots to try a younger option.<\/p>\n
