Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0OC Matt Nagy\u00a0seems destined to leave the organization, whether he gets a head-coaching job or not. As things currently stand, though, he\u2019s closer than ever before to his second head-coaching opportunity after flaming out with the\u00a0Chicago Bears.<\/p>\n
Nagy has interviewed with the\u00a0Baltimore Ravens,\u00a0Las Vegas Raiders,\u00a0Arizona Cardinals, and\u00a0Tennessee Titans. The latter of which, he\u2019s a presumptive favorite because of his relationship with former Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi,\u00a0who is now running the show in Tennessee.<\/p>\n
With the latest update, there\u2019s an even clearer indication that Nagy is viewed as a favorite to land the Titans\u2019 job.<\/p>\n
As reported by NFL insiders\u00a0Ian Rapoport,\u00a0Jordan Schultz, and\u00a0Dianna Russini, Chiefs OC Matt Nagy will have a second interview with the Titans. Rapoport indicated that this round of interviews will be conducted in-person. This is the first news that Nagy will get a second-round interview for any of the four vacancies for which he has interviewed. What also matters here is the other candidates slated for second-round interviews with Tennessee.<\/p>\n
The other two candidates slated for interviews are\u00a0Green Bay Packers\u00a0DC Jeff Hafley & former\u00a0Cleveland Browns\u00a0head coach Kevin Stefanski. Hafley is currently viewed as a favorite to land the\u00a0Miami Dolphins\u00a0job,\u00a0following GM Jon-Eric Sullivan\u00a0from Green Bay. Schultz indicated that Hafley is viewed as a favorite for virtually every job he\u2019s interviewed for. Similarly, the\u00a0Atlanta Falcons\u00a0seem to have a sense of urgency to lock down Stefanski, according to Rapoport.<\/p>\n
So what does this all mean for Nagy? Well, it\u2019s entirely possible that neither Hafley nor Stefanski makes it to a second interview. That\u2019d leave a clear path for Nagy or former\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy,\u00a0who has already had a second interview.<\/p>\n
With the John Harbaugh domino falling in New York, other teams are looking to wrap up their head-coaching searches. That could leave a team like the Titans scrambling if several of their finalists come off the board before they can even get a second-round interview. There\u2019s a chance they wait for more candidates to become available as the playoffs wind down, but Chiefs fans know all too well that NFL clubs simply aren\u2019t that patient.<\/p>\n
