The goal for\u00a0Patrick Mahomes\u00a0and the\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0is for him to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. The two-time All-Pro quarterback\u2019s campaign came to an abrupt end in Week 15 after Mahomes suffered what turned out to be a season-ending injury against the\u00a0Los Angeles Chargers.<\/p>\n
Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee, which required surgery. The 30-year-old ended his season with 315-of-502 completed passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.<\/p>\n
Since going under the knife on Dec. 15, Mahomes has been working hard in his rehab with the objective of returning for Week 1 of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared some news on Mahomes\u2019 road to recovery. The three-time\u00a0Super Bowl-winning coach said that Mahomes is making good progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, he\u2019s doing great for just being three weeks out or so,\u201d Reid said, via\u00a0NBC Sports\u2019 Pro Football Talk. \u201cHe\u2019ll go ahead and most likely stay up here for the majority of the time rehabbing. He and Julie (Frymyer), she\u2019s the person who does all that RPT (rehab physical therapy), and so he has a lot of trust in her, and he\u2019s been just in there grinding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they\u2019ll just continue till we get started again. Not that he won\u2019t take a break here or there, but right now, he\u2019s in that early process where you\u2019ve got to really hit it hard. And, you know, it\u2019s not necessarily a fun thing to do every day. The important thing is that you show up, and that you keep coming, coming back for more, and he\u2019s been doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Based on Reid\u2019s comments, Mahomes will be required to spend the majority of his offseason in the team\u2019s practice facility in Kansas City, where he will be working with Chiefs athletic trainer Julie Frymyer. This means that the six-time Pro Bowler may need to deviate from his usual offseason plans.<\/p>\n
Mahomes is now facing a crucial decision on whether he will remain in Kansas City to rehab or head home to Texas, which is where he usually spends his offseasons.<\/p>\n
Mahomes owns a\u00a0$3.37 million mansion\u00a0in Westlake, Texas, which is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Mahomes, together with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and their three kids typically\u00a0head home after the NFL season. This offseason could be very different for the entire family if the Chiefs QB decides to remain in Kansas City for his rehab.<\/p>\n
Mahomes has also hosted offseason workout sessions with his teammates in Texas. Apart from building team chemistry, it\u2019s also an opportunity for them to form personal connections in a more relaxed environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I find most enjoyable is just building those relationships with guys,\u201d Mahomes said in 2024, via\u00a0ESPN. \u201cEvery single team is different \u2026 Getting them down here and seeing them outside the building, trying to do different things, trying to get dinner, whatever it is, you get to meet the guy and I think that\u2019s what brings the team closer together. That\u2019s something that I enjoy especially about this part of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n
