This 1 scenario must happen -  Yahoo Sports\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The\u00a0Detroit Lions\u00a0playoff chances\u00a0are hanging by a thread, down to one scenario entering their\u00a0Christmas NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Two things must happen: The\u00a0Lions\u00a0must win Thursday evening in Minneapolis to thwart elimination for a few days, and then hope the\u00a0Green Bay Packers\u00a0lose on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">If both results happen, the Lions will at least have hope entering their Week 18 regular-season finale at the\u00a0Chicago Bears, who would have already clinched the NFC North due to Green Bay&#8217;s loss. (Chicago could still have seeding to play for.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">But let&#8217;s not get ahead of ourselves. The Lions (8-7)\u00a0have lost two in a row, their first losing streak in more than three years. That must end Thursday against an undrafted rookie quarterback,\u00a0Max Brosmer, and the 7-8 Vikings, winners of three in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take an updated look with everything you need to know about the Lions&#8217; playoff scenarios and odds, the NFC playoff picture and more entering Thursday&#8217;s action to start Week 17:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_mt\">Lions playoff scenarios<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Here&#8217;s how the Lions can make the playoffs, with only one scenario to get in:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Lions win their final two games to finish 10-7.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The Packers lose their final two games to finish 9-7-1. A tie gets the Packers into the playoffs, since they would have two ties, which the NFL splits as a win and a loss\u00a0for tiebreak purposes. (In that rare case, the Packers own the tiebreaker over the Lions due to sweeping the head-to-head season series.) Green Bay hosts Baltimore in Week 17 and visits Minnesota in Week 18.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_mt\">Lions playoff odds<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Entering Week 17:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The Lions have a 6% chance of making the playoffs, according to\u00a0NFL Next Gen Stats.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The Lions a 4% chance, according to\u00a0The Athletic&#8217;s projection model.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The Lions have a 7% chance, according to\u00a0ESPN Analytics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<aside id=\"gnt_atomsnc\" class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_anc\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"loadAnc\" aria-label=\"Newsletter signup form\"><\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Lions can only make the playoffs as the 7-seed, which will play the 2-seed in the wild-card round.
