Jaire Alexander<\/strong> has been limited by a knee issue over the past few weeks, and it sounds like the injury is worse than the cornerback and the Packers initially let on. Alexander told Matt Schneidman of The Athletic that he suffered a PCL tear that might keep him off the field for several more weeks.<\/p>\n

Alexander suffered the tear during Green Bay\u2019s Week 8 win over Jacksonville. He sat out the team\u2019s Week 9 contest and had a bye during Week 10. After practicing on a limited basis last week, Alexander started Sunday\u2019s win over the Bears, but he only got into 10 defensive snaps before exiting the game for good. As Schneidman notes, coach Matt<\/strong> LaFleur<\/strong> had previously revealed that Alexander would be on a snap limit for Week 11, but the cornerback was still expected to play more than a handful of drives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stayed here the whole bye week trying to hopefully come back and make an impact for the team,\u201d Alexander told Schneidman. \u201cIt was a game-time decision at that, so we didn\u2019t know \u2026 until, you know, a few minutes before the game if I would play or not.<\/p>\n

\"Jaire<\/p>\n

\u201cI just tried to give it a go \u2026 I went out there and s\u2013t, all I could really give was 10 plays and then it \u2014 I felt something. If you know how (posterior cruciate ligaments) work, it don\u2019t just get done in three weeks, so it just needed more time. I reaggravated it going back out there and only doing 10 plays, so now we just trying to get my knee back right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander expressed optimism that he can get back to his All-Pro production for the stretch run of the 2024 campaign. However, the cornerback cautioned that he may need more time off as he looks to return to full strength.<\/p>\n

The former first-round pick established himself as one of the NFL\u2019s top defensive backs with strong showings in 2020 and 2022. Unfortunately, his other recent campaigns have been wrecked by injuries. He was limited to four games in 2021 thanks to a shoulder injury, and he got into only seven games in 2023 while dealing with back and shoulder issues (along with a one-game suspension). Alexander also missed a pair of games earlier this season while nursing a groin injury.<\/p>\n

Keisean Nixon<\/strong> has secured the other starting CB spot this season and will continue to lead the depth chart with Alexander out of the lineup. Eric Stokes<\/strong> got a long look as the team\u2019s third CB but was passed by Carrington Valentine<\/strong> in Week 11.<\/p>\n

Hamstring Sidelines Edgerrin Cooper<\/h1>\n

A key member of the Green Bay Packers\u2019 defense did not practice on Thursday as the team gets ready for Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.\u00a0Plus, there are big questions in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\"Green<\/p>\n

One of the Green Bay Packers\u2019 top defensive players, rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, did not practice on Thursday. His absence puts his status for Sunday\u2019s NFC showdown against the San Francisco 49ers in some doubt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see how he\u2019s feeling tomorrow. But, yeah, for sure\u201d there is concern for Sunday, coach Matt LaFleur said.<\/p>\n

Cooper went through drills while reporters were present on Wednesday but\u00a0popped up on the injury report as limited participation<\/u>\u00a0with a hamstring injury. That injury was sustained at practice and was not something that occurred during the victory at Chicago.<\/p>\n

Cooper is fifth on the team with 47 tackles and has added 2.5 sacks, five tackles for losses, four quarterback hits, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.<\/p>\n

For the 49ers, stud defensive end Nick Bosa (hip\/oblique) and premier left tackle Trent Williams (ankle)did not practice.<\/p>\n

Plus, quarterback Brock Purdy, who had a sore throwing shoulder after the Seattle game did some light throwing at the start of practice,\u00a0talked to a trainer and walked off the field<\/u>. Officially, he was limited participation. Interestingly, his Thursday news conference was pushed back until Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrock Purdy, from everything I’ve been told, should be fine for this game on Sunday against the Packers,\u201d\u00a0NFL Media\u2019s Tom Pelissero reported.<\/p>\n

Cooper recorded at least six tackles in four of the last five games; the exception was Week 7 against Houston, when he had two tackles for losses. A week later,\u00a0he earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week<\/u>\u00a0for his performance at Jacksonville, which included a sack\/strip that the Packers turned into a key touchdown, and a sensational pass breakup.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it means something to me, but how I look at it is if I\u2019m doing my job right, all that stuff is going to come,\u201d Cooper said at the time. \u201cJust focus on what I\u2019ve got to do, go out there, don\u2019t make no errors, go out there and make plays and all that stuff comes toward me.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Cooper can\u2019t play, there would be more opportunities for Eric Wilson and Isaiah McDuffie as the linebacker(s) alongside middle linebacker Quay Walker against the 49ers\u2019 powerhouse offense. Walker leads the team with 72 tackles, McDuffie is second with 56 and Wilson leads the squad with seven tackles for losses.<\/p>\n

Cooper was the 45th pick of this year\u2019s draft and was the first linebacker off the board following an All-American final season at Texas A&M in which he led the SEC in tackles for losses.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s played only 45 percent of the defensive snaps this season but played a season-high 70.8 percent against the Bears on the heels of a career-high 66.7 percent against the Lions.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, he had a little bit of a setback in training camp [due to injury], which always for a young player is tough when you miss that much time on the field,\u201d general manager Brian Gutekunst said recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut just like he was in college, when you put him on the field, he makes dynamic plays. He\u2019s still working through some of the details and intricacies of our defense but, when he\u2019s out there, you feel him. He certainly brings an element of speed on that field and he\u2019s a natural playmaker. Excited for him, where he can go. I think there\u2019s a lot of really good football ahead of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among all rookie defenders, he is fourth with 52 tackles (including special teams). He is first among rookie linebackers in tackles and tackles for losses. Cooper and Rams outside linebacker Jared Verse are the only rookies with two-plus sacks and 40-plus tackles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve said this before, but eyes, feet, hands, violent finish,\u201d position coach Anthony Campanile said recently. \u201cAnd when your eyes are right, your feet will be right. Your feet are right, your hands are going to be right. And then, at the end of every play, there\u2019s got to be a violent finish. At the point of attack, that has to happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you\u2019re disengaging a block, finishing a tackle, breaking a drive in zone coverage, rushing the passer or finishing downfield in coverage, there has to be a violent finish. And usually that dictates whether there\u2019s a positive or negative outcome on the play. But I think his eyes have gotten much better and, because of that, he\u2019s having a lot of production.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Everyone else on the active roster practiced inside the Don Hutson Center on Thursday due to the wet field and fierce wind.<\/p>\n
