Dillon Gabriel\u00a0has been the starting quarterback of the\u00a0Cleveland Browns\u00a0since Oct. 5, when he started against the\u00a0Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n
Despite the loss in that game, the early returns were solid. He finished the contest with 190 yards through the air, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He started in the three games after the Vikings\u2019 one and has compiled 702 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions this year.<\/p>\n
The Browns are trying to see what they have in him and if he could be their starting quarterback for future seasons.<\/p>\n
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski discussed Gabriel during his presser on Wednesday and answered an interesting question about whether his 5\u201911 height is a reason he hasn\u2019t thrown to wide receivers as often.<\/p>\n \u201cI understand the question, but I would not characterize it that way,\u201d\u00a0Stefanski told Browns reporter Tony Grossi.\u00a0\u201cWe need to play better as an offense. Certainly, there\u2019s areas to improve for a young quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n The Browns are 2-6 through eight games and are coming off a much-needed bye week. They have a very winnable game on Sunday against the 1-7\u00a0New York Jets, but their offense will need to be a lot better than it has been if they want to come away with the victory.<\/p>\n Before the Browns\u2019 bye week, they lost their last game to the\u00a0New England Patriots\u00a0on Oct. 26, 32-13. It came one week after they crushed the\u00a0Miami Dolphins\u00a0at home, 31-6.<\/p>\n Kickoff for Sunday\u2019s Browns-Jets game will be at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
