<\/p>\nSad details have been revealed about the final days of actor Diane Keaton, who died\u00a0in her native California\u00a0at the weekend, aged 79.<\/p>\n

On Monday (Australian time), her long-time friend songwriter Carole Bayer Sager said she was surprised by Keaton\u2019s appearance when she last saw her.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,\u201d Sager told\u00a0People<\/em>\u00a0magazine. \u201cShe had lost so much weight.\u201d<\/p>\n Sager, an Oscar and Grammy award winner who co-wrote Keaton\u2019s only solo single,\u00a0First Christmas<\/em>, said she had seen little of her friend this year because Keaton had spent months in Palm Springs after the wildfires in California earlier in the year.<\/p>\n \u201cShe had to go to Palm Springs because her house had been damaged inside, and they had to clean everything,\u201d Sager said.<\/p>\n \u201cShe was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she\u2019d lost.\u201d<\/p>\n But she said Keaton remained \u201ca magic light for everyone\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI just loved her. She was so special, she just lit up a room with her energy. She was happy and upbeat and taking photographs of everything she saw. She was completely creative; she never stopped creating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Keaton had also previously been open about life-long struggles with cancer and bulimia. She was first\u00a0diagnosed with skin cancer at age 21.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a family history,\u201d she told\u00a0The Los Angeles Times<\/em>\u00a0in 2015.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember my Auntie Martha had skin cancer so bad they removed her nose. My father had basal skin cancer and my brother had it. It\u2019s tricky with this skin cancer. That\u2019s why you\u2019ve got to put the sunblock on.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBack in my 20s, I didn\u2019t pay attention much. I didn\u2019t research and didn\u2019t really care and that was stupid because it\u2019s dogged me my entire adult life, even recently. I didn\u2019t start sun care until my 40s.\u201d<\/p>\n Decades later, Keaton was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer, which took two surgeries to remove.<\/p>\n Some actors play emotions.
