CINCINNATI \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0Bengals\u00a0are flailing without Joe\u00a0Burrow’s\u00a0services this season, and\u00a0it’s\u00a0pushing Zac Taylor onto the hot seat in the eyes of Sports\u00a0Illustrated’s\u00a0Matt Verdarame.<\/p>\n

He placed\u00a0Taylor’s\u00a0hot seat meter at a 5\/10\u00a0amidst\u00a0Cincinnati’s\u00a0three-game losing streak.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s\u00a0hard to know what the Bengals are going to do with Taylor after this season,”\u00a0Verdarame wrote.\u00a0“Assuming Cincinnati misses the playoffs after the loss of Joe Burrow to turf toe, the Bengals will have missed out on the postseason in five of their seven seasons under Taylor, including six with Burrow. Still, Taylor helped guide the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 2021 before leading them to the AFC title game the following year.<\/p>\n

“The case is there to think Cincinnati will keep Taylor. This is the same franchise that allowed Marvin Lewis to serve as coach for 17 seasons, despite never winning a playoff game. Taylor also has enjoyed success, and\u00a0Burrow\u2019s\u00a0injury might be enough for owner Mike Brown to give him a pass if this season goes sideways.\u00a0 Taylor is also 48\u201355\u20131, and while Burrow has endured three significant injuries,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0the\u00a0coach\u2019s\u00a0job to win games. The Bengals have struggled to do anything consistently on defense throughout\u00a0Taylor\u2019s\u00a0tenure, despite multiple coordinators, and the offense relying on Burrow throwing to\u00a0Ja\u2019Marr\u00a0Chase, Tee Higgins, and little else.\u00a0If the Bengals retain Taylor,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0defensible. If not, the same is true.”<\/p>\n

Taylor has had a long time to find consistency in Cincinnati, and it just\u00a0hasn’t\u00a0happened. He has one year remaining on his contract after this season as\u00a0Cincinnati\u00a0tries to stay afloat in the AFC playoff race.<\/p>\n

They are widely expected to lose at Green Bay this weekend and enter that game with a 9.2% chance to make the playoffs on\u00a0ESPN’s\u00a0FPI. That is the lowest percentage of any 2-3 team.<\/p>\n
