Xavier Worthy found his way onto the Kansas City Chiefs’ injury report ahead of the Monday Night Football showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had to deal with a rotating cast of receivers as injuries and suspensions take their toll.<\/p>\n

Per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Worthy’s ankle was ‘a little swollen getting off the plane’ when Kansas City touched down in Florida on Sunday.<\/p>\n

His report claimed that Worthy — Taylor Swift’s second-favourite Chiefs pass-catcher — had been listed as questionable ‘as a precaution for now’ with a further update expected on Monday.<\/p>\n

Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame says the Chiefs are ‘hopeful he\u2019ll be able to go.’<\/p>\n

Worthy has only played in two games this season, but managed five catches for 83 yards and two carries for another 38 on the ground in a Week 4 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.<\/p>\n

Mahomes has been without rookie Jalen Royals, who wasn’t targeted on his debut in Week 5, for much of the season, and No.1 receiver Rashee Rice is serving a six-game suspension.<\/p>\n

After Rice suffered a season-ending injury in 2024, Worthy stepped up and managed 638 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie.<\/p>\n

The first-round speedster being available would be a huge boost for Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid against Jacksonville.<\/p>\n

If Worthy can suit up, however, the conditions may not be favorable.<\/p>\n

Heavy rain has soaked the field in Jacksonville, and Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie thinks defenses will flourish.<\/p>\n

\u201cI say advantage defense,\u201d he said Saturday. \u201cWe love it when it’s bad weather and the receivers can’t get out of their breaks fast enough.<\/p>\n

\"Joe<\/p>\n

“And O-linemen kind of have to play on a little more even surface. But whatever it is, rain, shine, snow<\/span>, we’re ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rain is predicted to clear the area by kickoff, but the field will be sodden.<\/p>\n

Reid fears that wet conditions will suit the Jaguars, who lead the NFL in takeaways (13), interceptions (nine) and turnover margin (plus-nine).<\/p>\n

The Chiefs have the joint-fewest turnovers with just one.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally comes down to the guys doing it,\u201d Reid said Thursday on his team protecting the football. \u201cAnd the guys have done a nice<\/span> job keeping it high and tight when needed, and not having tipped balls. All the things that kind of lead to those.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then, this is a potential weather game, so you add that into it, too. You got to make sure that you really take care of the football.\u201d<\/p>\n

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub backed returner Nikko Remigio and kicker Harrison Butker to handle the conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, we talked about that today,\u201d he said Friday. \u201cWe’re not going to wet the balls or anything like that.<\/p>\n

“But we talked about it, and we say that if it is raining or the wind and those things, we’re going to take that into factor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith our return game, we talked about that this morning. \u2026 We’re experienced.<\/p>\n

“I think we got enough experienced guys that we\u2019ll be able to handle it. And we practice in the rain out here, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen lost an overtime thriller 30-24 to the Chiefs while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator last season and will now hope to go one better in his new home.<\/p>\n
