The Detroit Lions have been among the best teams in the NFL after they stumbled out of the gate against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, but some new injury news is going to make the path to continued dominance more difficult in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Cornerback D.J. Reed is headed to the injured reserve list (IR), which means the Lions will be without the $48 million starter for at least the next four weeks.<\/p>\n

“Lions announce roster moves: Placed CB D.J. Reed on Reserve\/Injured. Signed S Loren Strickland and LB Ty Summers to the Active Roster from the Practice Squad. Signed CB Tre Flowers and CB Nick Whiteside to the Practice Squad,” the team wrote in a post to its official X account on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Reed suffered a hamstring injury against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. And while the muscle strain represents a significant health issue, Reed initially thought it was worse than it turned out to be.<\/p>\n

“Reed didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice but was spotted in the locker room without a boot or brace on his injured leg. He said he thought he tore a hamstring off the bone, ‘but that’s not the case, thank God. I thought it was a wrap,'” Eric Woodyard of ESPN reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Reed, 28, will not have to undergo surgery to repair his hamstring.<\/p>\n

Detroit added Reed to the roster during the offseason following a three-year stint with the New York Jets. He also played two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, respectively, to begin his career.<\/p>\n

Reed has tallied 16 tackles, four pass breakups, one interception and a fumble recovery in four games this season. He is under contract in Detroit through 2027.<\/p>\n

Terrion Arnold, another starting cornerback for the Lions, hurt his shoulder last weekend, though Woodyard reported that Arnold practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity.<\/p>\n
