Owner Jerry Jones teased the move during his postgame press conference following the Cowboys\u2019 win over the New York Giants.<\/p>\n<p>One day later, the franchise officially announced the signing while also moving starting center Cooper Beebe to injured reserve. With Micah Parsons now playing at Lambeau Field, the Cowboys are looking for Clowney to impact the quarterback. Clowney revealed that defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus does not plan to use the star in coverage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI go forward,\u201d Clowney told DallasCowboys.com during a September 15, interview. \u201cLast year, I did a lot of dropping, and that\u2019s not my strong suit \u2014 covering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, of course not. When you\u2019re big, you go forward. After the Cowboys acquired defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the blockbuster deal for Parsons, Clowney identified Dallas as the team he wanted to sign with in 2025. With Clark stopping the run in the middle of the defensive line, Clowney is free to attack the passer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as Kenny Clark signed here, I told my agent, \u2018I think that will be a good move for me,&#8217;\u201d Clowney added. \u201c\u2018They\u2019ve got a good secondary, and they\u2019ve got good [defensive] tackles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018They just need [me]. The signing was a low-risk move for the Cowboys inking Clowney to a one-year deal with a base salary of $3.6 million, per Dallas Morning News\u2019 Calvin Watkins.<\/p>\n<p>Clowney can earn up to $6 million this season via incentives.
