KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 While expectations were high among Kansas City Chiefs fans heading into Friday night\u2019s Week 1 game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Chiefs would end up falling flat.<\/p>\n
While wide receiver\u00a0Xavier Worthy went down with a shoulder injury<\/strong>\u00a0just three plays into his sophomore season, it was clear the Los Angeles Chargers were playing with more intensity. According to Head Coach Andy Reid, part of that problem was on his end.<\/p>\n \u201cWe can learn from this as we move forward, which I\u2019ve got to make sure I get my team in a better state there coming out, playing with more emotion,\u201d Coach Reid said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were a little flat that first half, and that cost us.\u201d<\/p>\n As far as Worthy\u2019s injury goes, the team won\u2019t know the severity of the injury or how long the young wideout will be sidelined until returning home and completing MRIs. Nevertheless, the injury isn\u2019t good for the Chiefs\u2019 offense with Rashee Rice out with a suspension till Week 7.<\/p>\n While the Chiefs\u2019 passing game picked up a bit in the second half, the hole the Chiefs had dug themselves in proved to be too much. Reid said getting off to a better start would\u2019ve been the difference.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought it was like a two-halves passing game. I think the first half we were off a bit. And then the second half it picked up a little bit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had a few more explosives there and got into better rhythm than what we had there. We\u2019ve got to, again, I\u2019ve got to make sure we start faster.\u201d<\/p>\n Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes echoed a similar statement, saying, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t good enough,\u201d when asked about the Chiefs\u2019 performance.<\/p>\n \u201cI think, just in general, they came out with more energy than we did \u2014 their defense and our offense. So, we didn\u2019t execute. I missed some throws down the field. And obviously we didn\u2019t play good enough in the first half,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n While the loss stings in Chiefs Kingdom, the Chiefs have little time to mend their wounds before returning to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 14.<\/p>\n Mahomes said that the team will be counting on him and the other Chiefs leaders heading into Week 2.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be any easier,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s a good football team that we\u2019re playing against next week. I think we should have a great week of practice, come in with the right mindset.
