NFL\u00a0fans have been waiting for over a year to see if the league will discipline\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0wide receiver Rashee Rice for his role in a multi-car crash. Well, they\u2019ll have to wait a bit longer.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reported that Rice will have his disciplinary hearing on Sept. 30. That means he\u2019ll most likely be cleared for the first four weeks of the regular season, which includes a Week 1 showdown with the\u00a0Los Angeles Chargers\u00a0in Brazil.<\/p>\n
Several people, including Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, pointed out how Rice\u2019s situation is a bad look for the NFL.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook at it this way. If the league had announced Rice\u2019s suspension on Thursday, no one could have raised a credible question about it. It\u2019s standard practice to resolve these suspensions before Week 1. The fact that the incident happened nearly a year and a half ago would have made it even more appropriate for the situation to be resolved before the Chiefs face the Chargers three weeks from tonight in Brazil,\u201d\u00a0Florio wrote. \u201cThe fact that it wasn\u2019t is odd, because it represents a deviation from standard practice. Which necessarily creates bad optics for the league.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThank God Rashee Rice didn\u2019t sports gamble\u2026 he would\u2019ve been immediately suspended for the entire season. Instead, he just caused a multi-car crash in Dallas and pleaded guilty to two third degree felony charges. But at least he didn\u2019t gamble,\u201d one fan wrote on X.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe knew. No surprise here, unfortunately. Again, the NFL caters to the network money. Network money comes FIRST. It\u2019s not a conspiracy, it\u2019s a fact that drives decision making,\u201d another fan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cChiefs went 11-1 and onto the\u00a0Super Bowl\u00a0without Rice last year Chiefs will win with or without him,\u201d one fan replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo true. Chiefs probably don\u2019t win the AFC last year without Rice,\u201d another fan sarcastically said.<\/p>\n
Rice has already said that he learned from his mistakes, but that won\u2019t save him from a suspension.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that\u2019s me doing what I do best right here on the field,\u201d\u00a0Rice said, via ESPN. \u201cI learned just how valuable any opportunity and moment is. This right here, us being able to be on the field and be coached by Coach [Andy] Reid and have such a great quarterback, is honestly a gift, a blessing. I\u2019ve completely changed. Honestly, you have to learn from things like that. I\u2019ve taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
