The Green Bay Packers already had a loaded wide receiver room going into the offseason, but they still decided to double down on it by selecting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the NFL\u00a0Draft.<\/p>\n
This has created one heck of a glut at the position for the Packers, who feature Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson (who is recovering from a torn ACL) on their depth chart.<\/p>\n
Surely, there won’t be enough touches to go around for the entire group. Heck, last year, Doubs expressed some displeasure over his role. For that reason, Green Bay seems to be a candidate to make a wide receiver trade.<\/p>\n
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay seems to believe that Doubs himself could get the process going, naming him among four players who could be next to request a trade before the start of the season.<\/p>\n

“While the Nevada product has held an important but slightly limited role in the Packers’ passing attack, he may not be too happy with the prospects of it being further diminished in 2025,”\u00a0Kay wrote. “It wouldn’t be the first time he openly expressed unhappiness with his opportunities, either.”<\/p>\n
Doubs caught 46 passes for 601 yards and four touchdowns last season, but it should be noted that he did that over the course of 13 games rather than a full campaign.<\/p>\n
Still, it seems rather inevitable that Doubs’ targets will be cut in 2025. The Packers took Golden in the first round, so they definitely plan on using him. Then there is Williams, who could end up becoming a bigger version of Deebo Samuel.<\/p>\n
“Although he’s only earning a base salary of $3.4 million this season, obliging a potential trade request would help Green Bay’s brass out in several ways,” Kay continued. “Moving Doubs would not only free up a roster spot, but it would also help bring clarity to the team’s pass-catching pecking order and potentially return even more draft capital than the Packers would receive via the\u00a0NFL’s compensatory pick formula for departing free agents.”<\/p>\n
Green Bay initially selected Doubs in the fourth round of the 2022\u00a0NFL\u00a0Draft, and it could probably expect to receive similar compensation in return. Perhaps the Packers could extract a third-round pick from a team desperate for wide receiver help, but it’s hard to imagine them getting any more than that.<\/p>\n
Regardless, it might be worth it for Green Bay to free up its rookie pass-catchers and to avoid any potential locker-room issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
