One of the best NFL storylines to follow through training camp will be found with the Cleveland Browns as they return to Berea.<\/p>\n
They enter training camp without an established starting quarterback and are expected to begin a four-way competition between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. This means the Browns will have to find a way to divide up first-team reps evenly, and it may cause a murky outlook heading into the season.<\/p>\n
However, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland dot com thinks that we could have an answer to the riddle sooner rather than later. Here is what Cabot had to say on a timeline for having a better understanding of who will start at quarterback for the Browns:<\/p>\n
“By the time the Browns practice against the Eagles on Aug. 13 and 14, it will be easier to see which way the Browns are leaning… The QB1 in those practices has a good chance to be the Week 1 starter, although the Browns will get some good data from the second preseason game in Philly too. Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders will likely split that game, probably in that order, and they can both gain some ground in the competition. I just think it needs to end sooner than later to get the starter ready to play.”<\/p>\n
The likelihood that the Browns start one of the veterans, either Flacco or Pickett, is extremely high. However, what could be interesting from there is whether or not they keep all four quarterbacks. And if they opt to only keep three, will it be a rookie or a veteran who is shipped off to a team in need of a backup quarterback?<\/p>\n
