The\u00a0Cincinnati Bengals\u00a0have a few major notable cut candidates who could also end up on the trade block over the course of the summer and training camp.<\/p>\n

Perhaps tops on that sort of list is guard Cordell Volson, who enters camp fighting for his 53-man roster life after last season\u2019s struggles.<\/p>\n

Volson, still just 26 years old, might earn some interest if he hits the trade block, though, as\u00a0Paul Dehner Jr.\u00a0of The Athletic writes after mentioning the\u00a0pay cut he took recently:<\/p>\n

\u201cEven with the cut, he still counts $3.1 million against the cap, and the\u00a0Bengals\u00a0would save $2.5 million by releasing or trading him. Teams are always looking for offensive line depth, and if a rookie, undrafted free agent or other player in the battle royale for the guard job plays to a similar level, it would be easy to see the Bengals feeling motivated to make a move on cutdown day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Volson took that pay cut to stick around after last year\u2019s benching, then watched as the Bengals drafted Dylan Fairchild, re-signed Cody Ford, and signed Lucas Patrick.<\/p>\n

Given that everyone seems to know this outlook, though, it\u2019s hard to imagine a team even in need of a fringe guard starter by cutdown day won\u2019t just wait to see if the Bengals cut Volson, rather than trade for him.<\/p>\n

But as the writeup also notes, Volson could also end up a starter, showing the wide range of outcomes here as the Bengals hope a new offensive line coach like Scott Peters can get things going in a better direction for the unit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
